What a treat to see this room full of Rothko’s. They were originally commissioned for the Four Seasons restaurant in NYC, but recognizing that the location would not be ideal, Rothko withdrew. He presented the series to the Tate, expressing his deep affection for England and for British artists, especially J.M.W. Turner. The installation includes all nine paintings with the reduced light and compact space the artist envisioned.
