Just chatting….
Jubilating? Someone stood up on the underground for me today. I should have been flattered, but Tom pointed out the sign. Turns out that the seat was designated for three women, each drawn out neatly: one pregnant, one holding a babe and the third, alas, with a cane. Guess who I am?
On the lighter side English? It ain’t the same language. What they say, what they really mean and what we hear: All different. (Thanks Carey Marvin, American living in Britain for 25 years.) Still, love their use of language: “Alight for the British Museum here,” says the recording on the bus.
