Tasty Snow Cones?

It’s true. Snow cones have always kinda freaked me out. I seem to remember blue tongues. Guess that makes me an elitist-arugula-eating-uptight something. But so be it. Enter Town Farm at the Northampton Tuesday farmers market, complete with crushed ice that’s drizzled with farm fresh flavors nestled in a paper cone. I look forward to […]

Missed food chatter….

A tease from last night’s supper. Recipe coming this fall. For Easy Improvisation Eggplant see bottom of post. Some fun posts that you may have missed on my Facebook page From Urban Gardens — Foraging ‘r us Years ago, I remember inviting my Chinese acupunturist and her family to our home. Wednesday Improvisation, Tuesday Market

Grilled Chicken with Summer Vegetables Marinate chicken thighs in local maple yogurt, hot sauce or hot chili pepper flakes, freshly grated ginger, onion powder and salt. Grill. Saute best of the market — corn kernels, zucchini slices, diced tomatoes or cherry tomato halves (or both) — in butter or olive oil. Sprinkle on top. Below […]

7 Simple Harvest Improvisations

These came to me when I woke up this morning…… Warm String Bean Salad
Plunge string beans into boiling water until tender-crisp. (I used multi-colored beans from my garden.)  Immediately after cooking, toss with garlic simmered in a little olive oil, lots of lemon zest, chives, toasted almond slices and salt and pepper. Serve with […]

Two more summer improvisations….

As with all of these improvisations, the measurements are not precise, but the “recipe” is easy-going, so it will work if you vary it a bit.  The fun comes when you don’t measure everything but know the culinary combinations will work well together anyway. This not only saves time, but makes cooking much more pleasurable…. […]
